COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Micha Powell of the Maryland women’s track and field team will compete at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 10-11 in College Station, Texas. Powell will run in the 400 meter dash for the second straight NCAA indoor season, a year removed from finishing 12th and earning Second Team All-American honors.
This is Powell’s third consecutive appearance at a NCAA Championships event, after qualifying in the 400 during the 2016 indoor and outdoor seasons. She is slated to run in the women’s 400 meter preliminaries starting at 7:20 pm (ET) at Gilliam Indoor Track. Should she advance, she will run in Saturday’s finals scheduled to start at 5:40 pm (ET).
The Ontario, Canada is seeded 12th with a mark of 52.60 set at the Big Ten Championship Meet back on February 25. Powell put together her fastest 400 meter race of the 2017 indoor season, earning a spot on the podium for the second consecutive season at the event. The Rio Olympian shaved a full second off of her preliminary time (53.62) to finish second in the conference.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 10 starting at 6:25 p.m. ET and March 11 starting at 4:55 p.m. ET. A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 12 starting at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
