Zack Schroeder was hired by head coach John Tillman as the Maryland men’s lacrosse team’s Director of Lacrosse Operations on Jan. 10, 2017.

“We are excited to welcome Zack, his wife Megan and his children, Brynnlee and Griffin, to the University of Maryland lacrosse family,” Tillman said. “I have personally known Zack for more than 10 years. He has an impressive background both on and off the field, and will be a great mentor for our student-athletes.”

A 2010 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Schroeder brings a bevy of lacrosse experience to Maryland. Schroeder most recently coached lacrosse at Keller High School in Texas, upon finishing his five years of service as a Supply Corps Officer in the Navy with tours in Newport, Norfolk and Guam.

A native of Deer Park, N.Y., Schroeder had a highly successful collegiate career as a long stick midfielder at Navy from 2007-10. He helped guide the Mids to three NCAA Tournament appearances and three Patriot League Championships, while appearing in 48 career games and totaling 65 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers. Tillman was an assistant coach at Navy during Schroeder’s freshman season in 2007.

Schroeder has earned a number of military awards, including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for superior performance and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for outstanding performance.

Schroeder graduated from Navy with a degree in Economics and is on pace to earn his Master’s degree in Sports Administration from the University of Miami. He is a 2005 graduate of St. Anthony’s High School (NY), where he played lacrosse for head coach Keith Wieczorek.
