COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Incoming Maryland volleyball freshmen Sam Burgio and Samantha Drechsel added to their impressive resumes with more All-America honors Friday. Burgio was named a MaxPreps Second Team All-American while Drechsel earned MaxPreps First Team honors and Honorable Mention.

A defensive specialist from Eden, N.Y., Burgio was the 2015 New York Gatorade Player of the Year. She was selected as an Under Armour Honorable Mention All-American in 2016 and was a 2015 PrepVolleyball All-American selection. Burgio was named to PrepVolleyball’s Senior Aces ‘The 150’. She led Eden to a sixth-straight New York state title in November.

An opposite/outside hitter from Bothell, Wash., Drechsel was a 2016 Under Armour First Team All-American and competed in the UA All-America game earlier this month. She was ranked as the No. 23 player in her class by PrepVolleyball and has been a two-time first team all-state selection.

Burgio and Drechsel are members of Maryland’s strongest freshman class in program history. The incoming freshman class includes four Under Armour All-Americans, three PrepVolleyball Senior Aces and two players on The 150.

Along with outside hitter Lexi Alden, Burgio and Drechsel will enroll at Maryland in January.
