ST PAUL, Minn. – No. 11 Minnesota topped the Maryland women’s soccer team, 6-0, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium Wednesday night.

The Terrapins (3-15-1, 1-10-0 Big Ten) had solid stretches of play throughout, but could not withstand a solid Gopher attack.

In the fifth minute, Julianna Gernes tucked away a Josee Stiever cross to put the Gophers up 1-0. Junior Kate Waters notched the first shot of the match for Maryland a couple minutes later, but it went wide.

In the 18th minute, junior Chelsea Jackson found some space in the box, but her right-footed attempt went wide. Sydney Squires doubled the Minnesota lead in the 40th minute, capitalizing off a Madison Turner deflection to get in on goal before sliding the ball past keeper Rachel Egyed.

Minnesota found its third goal in the 47th minute when Nikki Albrecht smacked the ball past Katelyn Jensen, who had taken over to start the half, to the right post. Kellie McGahn scored the Gophers’ fourth goal of the evening in the 66th minute. Squires scored her second of the night in the 72nd minute. Maya Rajacich also scored for Minnesota.

Maryland finishes its season with more goals (21) than it scored all of last season (17).
