COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Jamal Wade hit a solo home run in the fourth inning that proved to be the difference as Team Papio captured the Fall World Series title wiith a 3-2 win over Team Martir at Bob "Turtle Smith Stadium Tuesday.
Team Papio, which dropped the opening game of the FWS, rallied to win the final two games of a tightly contested series. After Wade's home run, senior Tayler Stiles, sophomore Andrew Miller and senior Mike Rescigno closed the game out in the final frames.
Team Martir took an early lead for the third time in three games when senior Madison Nickens took Ryan Hill deep in the opening frame. Team Papio responded by loading the bases in the bottom half of the first, but Ryan Selmer worked his squad out of the jam after taking over for starter Nick Pantos.
Junior Will Watson evened the score for Team Papio, placing a bunt down the first-base line to score Nick Dunn from third. Wade then came into score on the next at bat, smartly coming home after Ty Friedrich was caught between bases after a hit to right field.
