Terps Compete in Team USA Fall Classic

SPARKS, Md. – Twelve current and former members of the Maryland women’s lacrosse team competed in Team USA’s Fall Classic last weekend. Australia, Canada, England and the United States competed in the tournament along with North Carolina.

The Terrapins were represented on each of the four national teams. Current senior Theo Kwas and Courtney Hobbs suited up for Australia while Dana Dobbie competed for Canada. Junior Megan Whittle was joined by Laura Merrifield and Camilla Hayes on England.

The Terps had six representatives on Team USA, including Alex Aust, Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin, Alice Mercer and Katie Schwarzmann.

The United States went 4-0 on the weekend, defeating North Carolina (20-7), England (20-13), Canada (20-5) and Australia (19-4). In three games, Aust posted 13 points, including three hat tricks. Griffin notched two five-point games against UNC and Canada, and Mercer picked up seven ground balls and caused two turnovers vs. Canada.

For Australia, Kwas tallied a hat trick against North Carolina. Dobbie picked up 15 draw controls and three assists in two appearances for Canada.

Whittle scored six goals in three games for England, and Merrifield scored a hat trick against Australia.

The squads are preparing for the 2017 FIL Women’s Work Cup, which will take place next summer in Guildford, England.
