COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland volleyball team will be opening its doors to friends of the program Saturday, Aug. 23, as it hosts a Fan Appreciation Night at 6 p.m. in Heritage Hall followed by an intersquad Red-White Scrimmage at 7 p.m. in the XFINITY Center Pavilion. The event is open to the media.
Beverages and appetizers will be included at the event in Heritage Hall, in addition to a ‘Chalk Talk’ hosted by Maryland head coach Steve Aird. A long list of giveaways will also be provided to fans, including bags, hats, shirts, an autographed ball and more.
“Going into our first Big Ten season Maryland, it is important to me to reach out to friends, family, alumni and the community,” Aird said. “We are going to roll out the red carpet for those that are interested in being part of our volleyball family. Saturday night will be a great event and the last opportunity to see our team before our first ever Big Ten match at home Oct. 3rd vs. Indiana.”
As mentioned by Aird, Saturday’s Red-White scrimmage will be the final chance for fans to get a glimpse of the Terps at home before their inaugural Big Ten match against Indiana on Oct. 3. The Terps open the season Aug. 29 at the Phoenix Invitational against Elon.
The Terrapins return four starters from last season, including all-conference performers Adreene Elliott and Ashleigh Crutcher. Maryland also added sophomore transfer Carlotta Oggioni, who played for Oregon State in the PAC-12 last season.
Season tickets are still available for the Terps’ first season in the highly-competitive Big Ten Conference, which advanced seven teams to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2013. Maryland is set to host five of the top-16 nationally ranked teams in the country, including defending national champion Penn State. Click here for more information.
