With the conclusion of All-Star games around the country, summer wooden bat leagues are heading towards the postseason with several current and future Terps earning accolades and making an impact on the circuit.

Maryland had five players named to the 2014 Ripken League All-Star Team led by second baseman Brandon Lowe. Building off his All-American campaign last season, Lowe ranks in the top-10 in six offensive categories and leads the league in RBI (29), on-base percentage (.473) and slugging (.543) playing for the Bethesda Big Train. Lowe was named the MVP of the all-star game after singling and scoring the winning run in the South team’s 2-1 win.

Rising sophomore Nick Cieri, who is playing for the Baltimore Redbirds this summer, earned a spot on the North All-Stars. Cieri ranks fourth in the league with a .333 batting average with eight doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI.

Lowe and Cieri were joined in the All-Star festivities by three future Terps. Incoming freshmen Justin Morris (South), Willie Rios (North) and Jamal Wade (North) all made the cut. In 12 games for the league-leading Big Train, Morris is hitting .345 with three doubles and four RBI. Rios is ninth in the league in strikeouts (37) and is averaging 12.0 K/9 for the Redbirds. Wade, also a member of the Redbirds, has nine RBI and five doubles in 22 games.

Up in Keene, N.H., with the Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, left hander Alex Robinson has enjoyed a strong summer and was named to the North Division All-Star Team. In 19-2/3 innings, Robinson has struck out 24 batters and has posted a 0.92 ERA.
