Yep Earns Academic All-District Honor

COLLEGE PARK, Md.Becky Yep of Maryland was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 team for women’s track and field and cross country, it was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Yep, a senior from Ellicott City, Md., carried a 3.90 cumulative grade-point average in mechanical engineering. She was one of 13 women selected to the District 2 team, which covers Division I schools in Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.

In addition to her stellar work in the classroom, Yep had an outstanding senior season for the Terrapins athletically.

In cross country, she led the Terps to the line in both championship meets – the ACC and NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.

Indoors, she had the Terps’ best season marks at 3,000 meters (9:58.34, 10th all-time at UMD) and 5,000 meters (17:19.76, 4th at UMD). She won the Hokie Invitational and was second at the Terrapin Invitational in her best 5K finishes.

During the outdoor season, Yep had the Terps’ best marks of 2014 at the 1,500 (4:39.27), 3,000 (10:06.59) & 5,000 (17:08.97, 8th all-time at UMD) distances. She won the 5K at the Navy Invitational.

Yep will now advance to the ballot for Academic All-America voting. All balloting is done by CoSIDA.
