COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan today released the women’s soccer schedule for the 2014 season. The Terps are entering their first season in the competitive Big Ten Conference and will play 10 teams that qualified for last year’s tournament, including nine from the Big Ten and UCLA, the defending NCAA champions.

“As is customary, we have put together a very exciting schedule that will provide great competition for our players and fans,” said Morgan, who is entering his third season at the helm of the Terrapin program. “Our non-conference schedule kicks off on the road in California against last year’s NCAA champion UCLA and West Coast Conference power Pepperdine. As we transition to the Big Ten we are thrilled about the new challenges we will face. The Big Ten is an outstanding league with nine programs having competed in the NCAA Tournament last fall. The opportunity to compete against these new teams in these new surroundings will be demanding yet exciting. We look forward to having a terrific season.”

After kicking off the season with an exhibition match vs. Georgetown, which was also an NCAA tournament team last season, on Aug. 12, Maryland opens with a two-game road trip to California and a season-opening match at UCLA, which finished with a 22-1-3 mark in 2013 en route to its first-ever NCAA title. The tail end of the California trip finds the Terrapins playing at Pepperdine, which registered its third-straight double-digit win season a year ago, on Aug. 22.

Maryland returns to College Park for its home opener on Aug. 28 against regional foe William & Mary. The Terps then welcome a familiar opponent to Ludwig Field when NC State comes to play Maryland on Aug. 31.

The Terrapins close out their non-conference schedule with a match against an opponent still to be determined on Sept. 5 and a short-trip across Rt. 50 to Annapolis to play at Navy on Sept. 7.

The Terps’ open their first Big Ten schedule with home games against NCAA tournament teams Rutgers on Sept. 12 and Michigan, which finished the 2013 ranked No. 6 in the final NSCAA poll, on Sept. 19. Maryland wraps up its three-game conference home stand with Michigan State on Sept. 21.

Maryland will then hit the road for a pair of games against two more NCAA tournament teams. The Terrapins will play at 2013 Big Ten tournament runner-up Iowa on Sept. 25 before heading to Lincoln, Neb., on Sept. 28 to play at 2013 Big Ten regular season and tournament champion Nebraska.

Home games vs. Purdue on Oct. 2 and Indiana, which was also an NCAA tournament team in 2013, on Oct. 5 are followed up with a road trip to Columbus, Ohio, to play at 2013 NCAA tournament participant Ohio State on Oct. 11.

Maryland then has six days to prepare to play Northwestern at Ludwig Field on Oct. 17. The Terps will then host Illinois, another 2013 NCAA tournament team, on Oct. 29 for Senior Day.

The 2014 regular season ends with three-straight road games, beginning at NCAA tournament participant Minnesota on Oct. 24. The Terps stay in the central time zone to play at Wisconsin on Oct. 26. The regular season wraps up at Penn State, which had made the last two NCAA tournaments and was a College Cup finalist in 2012, on Oct. 30.

The Big Ten Tournament will be held Nov. 5-9 in West Lafayette, Ind. The 2014 NCAA Tournament will begin on Nov. 14, with the first four rounds being held at campus sites. The 2014 Women’s College Cup will be played in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on Dec. 5, with the finals scheduled for Dec. 7.
