COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Six Maryland women’s lacrosse student-athletes were named to the IWLCA All-South Region team, announced Monday.

Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Beth Glaros, Brooke Griffin and Kelly McPartland all landed first team honors, while Alice Mercer notched second team honors for the second straight season.

Cummings – a Tewaaraton finalist - leads Maryland with 111 draw controls, 34 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers and ranks second on the Terps’ offense with 54 goals, 23 assists and 77 points. The sophomore from Ellicott City, Md., was an IWLCA First Team All-American as a rookie.

Douty, who joins Cummings as a Tewaaraton finalist, was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. The Fair Haven, N.J., product led a Maryland defense that held opponents to a league best 7.86 goals per game, even as the conference featured four other teams in the nation’s top 15 in scoring offense.

Glaros was instrumental to Maryland’s success in the midfield, racking up a career-best 47 goals and five assists. The senior captain from Ellicott City, Md., also added 62 draw controls for the ACC champion Terrapins.

Griffin has led the Terrapins’ dynamic attack with a team-best 75 points in 2014. The redshirt junior from Edgewater, Md., boasts 56 goals and 19 assists and was tabbed ACC Championship Most Valuable Player after guiding the Terps to wins against Virginia Tech, Virginia and Syracuse in the tournament.

McPartland has been solid all season long for Maryland and joins Griffin and Cummings as Terps with 50-plus goals in 2014. The midfielder from Farmingdale, N.Y., boasts 54 goals and a team-high 30 assists and, along with Glaros, Cummings, and Douty, was named First Team All-ACC earlier this season.

Mercer played a critical role in the defense as a sophomore in 2014. The Woodbine, Md., product tallied 27 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers as the Terps boasted one of the top defenses in the country.

The IWLCA honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2014. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 19. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday June 7, 2014 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

Maryland faces Duke this Saturday at noon in the quarterfinals of the 2014 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
