GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland high jumper Amina Smith was recognized Tuesday as one of two Women’s Performers of the Week by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The senior from Lusby, Md., shared the award with Virginia Tech freshman Eva Vivod.

Smith finished second in the high jump on Friday at the Pepsi Florida Relays, clearing 6 feet, 0-3/4 inches. She was one of three competitors over that height and places were determined by fewest misses.

The mark was the best in the nation so far this outdoor season and was Smith’s first ever outdoor clearance over 6 feet. She is now one of six Terp women in history over the bar at that height and is tied for third on Maryland’s all-time list.

Competing in the first collegiate meet of her career at the Pepsi Florida Relays, Virginia Tech’s Vivod delivered a throw of 186-4 (56.8m) in the women’s javelin.

The Maribor, Slovenia, freshman broke the Virginia Tech school record set by Dee O’Connell in 2002 and came less than two feet of the ACC record distance of 188-3 (57.38m) that has stood since 1998. Vivod’s mark is the No. 1 collegiate mark in the nation this season, as she prevailed in a 25-member field that included the previous top-ranked thrower in Florida’s Maria Vucenovic.

Georgia Tech junior Brandon Lasater was the ACC Male Track & Field Performer of the Week.
