COLLEGE PARK, Md. – A little rain could not deter fans and staff of the University of Maryland women’s basketball team Monday afternoon as they gathered at Comcast Center to welcome the team home from the Final Four in Nashville.
The fourth-seeded Terrapins’ magical run came to a close Sunday night as they fell to undefeated Notre Dame, 87-61. It was Maryland’s first trip to the Final Four since 2006.
Maryland knocked off top-seeded Tennessee in the Sweet 16, before taking down third-seeded Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center to advance to the Final Four last weekend.
The defeat marked the conclusion of excellent careers for five Terrapin seniors: Alyssa Thomas, Alicia DeVaughn, Katie Rutan, Sequoia Austin, and Essence Townsend. Thomas leaves Maryland as the all-time leader in scoring and rebounding.
