MARYLAND CLOSES ACC HOMESTAND AGAINST 20TH-RANKED CLEMSON

Upon completing its first ACC series sweep since 2009, Maryland welcomes its third straight top-25 weekend opponent to Shipley Field at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium when 20th-ranked Clemson arrives in College Park. The series is set to begin Friday at 3 p.m. with a doubleheader scheduled due to impending inclement weather. The series is scheduled to conclude Saturday at 2 p.m. .

TERRAPIN TAILS

- With a 5-2 victory over then-11th ranked NC State on Sunday, Maryland completed its first ACC series sweep since taking all three games from Wake Forest in 2009 (May 8-10) and its first sweep of the Wolfpack since 2002. The Terps enter the weekend winners of five in a row and six of their last seven games.

- With the sweep of the Wolfpack, Maryland debuted in the Collegiate Baseball News’ Top 30 at No. 25 on Monday. It’s Maryland’s first appearance in one of the five major polls since being ranked No. 30 by Collegiate Baseball News on March 4 of last season. In 2011, Maryland climbed to No. 21 in the CBN poll.

- On Friday night, Jake Stinnett struck out a career-high 14 batters in a 10-0 Terrapin win. The 14 Ks by Stinnett are the most by a Maryland hurler since 2008 and the highest total by a pitcher in an ACC game this season. Stinnett leads the ACC in strikeouts (51) and is averaging a league-best 10.93 strikeouts per game.

- For his efforts, Stinnett earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season. Stinnett is the first conference player to earn weekly honors three times in a single season since 2011, when both Florida State’s Sean Gilmartin and Georgia Tech’s Mark Pope were honored three times.

- Maryland was 9-for-9 in stolen bases over the weekend against the Wolfpack. The Terps began the week leading the ACC with 46 stolen bases and tied for ninth nationally. Over the last five games, Maryland is a perfect 16-for-16 in stolen bases.

- Maryland totaled 37 strikeouts in three games against NC State. That is the highest strikeout total of any weekend series this season. The Terps averaged 12.3 strikeouts per nine during the three-game set.

- Maryland pitching held NC State to an average of seven hits per contest. The Terps are holding opponents to 6.59 hits per nine, which began the week as the second-best average in the ACC and 10th nationally.

- Blake Schmit leads the Terps in slugging (.421), doubles (8) and stolen bases (10).

- Against UMass, right hander Jake Stinnett became the seventh Maryland pitcher all-time to throw a no-hitter and the first since Scott Swinson no-hit Delaware in Newark on May 13, 2008.
