The East Atlantic Gymnastics League named senior Jessie Black co-Specialist of the Week, the league announced Tuesday evening.
Black performed a tremendous routine on bars on Sunday afternoon in Maryland’s victory over West Virginia in the team’s last regular-season meet on Senior Night. Black tied her career-high score on the event with a 9.875 and won first place. She originally set her career record in the Terps’ win over North Carolina earlier this season, also at Comcast Center.
“I was definitely happy to tie my career best in my last competition in the Comcast Center,” Black said. “It is always so much fun competing in our arena and in front of our fans. However, beating West Virginia, posting our highest score of the season, and clinching our undefeated record at home made Senior Night even better. It was definitely a night I will never forget.”
Black has competed on bars for Maryland in seven meets this season and averages a 9.704. Black and her teammates look forward to the EAGL Championships on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. at New Hampshire.
“I look forward to having so much fun at the meet, doing what we always do in the gym, and being ourselves,” Black said. “I look forward to the team staying in our own ‘bubble,’ dominating one routine at a time, and having a blast throughout the whole meet. If we do that, the scores will follow.”
