COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former members of the University of Maryland field hockey program -- Ali McEvoy, Katie O'Donnell and Jill Witmer -- will be competing in a capped, four-game series this week between the U.S. Women's National Squad and the Canadian Women's National Team in Lancaster, Pa.

The matches will take place at the Spooky Nook Sports facility in Lancaster, Pa. this week. The U.S. won Monday's first match 7-0, with Witmer scoring twice. The remaining three matches will be played March11, 13 and 14. All matches will start at 6 p.m.

Before Monday’s match the field hockey community celebrated a monumental event in USA Field Hockey history with the cutting of a ribbon as the National Team stepped onto the pitch for their first capped game at the official Home of Hockey.

“It’s great to be hosting international matches here in Lancaster,” said head Coach Craig Parnham. “It’s also very pleasing to see so many people watching. Hopefully some hockey stars of the future are in the crowd.”

Team USA’s attack presence was a consistent theme carried throughout the entirety of the game. Lighting up the scoreboard in the initial minutes of play, Lauren Pfieffer and Witmer  found the back of the net in the 6th and 22nd minutes of play.

Witmer again cranked a ball in the 63rd minute of the match to end the game 7-0.

“This week provides another opportunity for the players to push for selection for the summer tournaments,” said Parnham. “The team will change throughout the week allowing us to look at a variety of options. Tonight was a good start to the week and a memorable night for Laura, gaining her first international cap."
