COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland head coach Randy Edsall will serve as Honorary Chairman for the 2014 Best Buddies Friendship Walk on Saturday, May 3, at Ritchie Coliseum, Best Buddies Maryland announced Thursday. It is the fourth straight year Edsall has severed as the honorary chairman.
The Friendship Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and refreshments. The annual event benefits Best Buddies Maryland, a nonprofit that creates one-to-one friendships, leadership opportunities and integrated employment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Friendship Walk consists of two separate courses, a one-mile course and a two-mile course around the campus. Both courses will begin at 10 a.m. The University of Maryland, College Park Best Buddies Chapter will be hosting lunch and the annual Friendship Games immediately after the Friendship Walk. Coach Edsall and members of his team will be on hand to take pictures and greet participants during the walk.
Thanks to Coach Edsall’s participation, the Best Buddies Maryland Friendship Walk has raised more than $375,000 in its first five years and has seen more than 2,500 walkers take part. It is the largest one day walk in the country for Best Buddies. The event committee has set a goal of $125,000 this year to reach the $500,000 for our total walks thus far. All participants who raise more than $50 will receive an official event t-shirt.
