NEW YORK - Taylor Cummings, Brooke Griffin and Kelly McPartland represent the Maryland women’s lacrosse team on the 2014 Tewaaraton Watch List, announced Thursday night.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and top female college lacrosse player in the nation. The selection committees are made up of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Griffin – an All-ACC selection in 2013 – racked up 49 goals and 24 assists last season and currently boasts 15 goals and four assists for the unbeaten Terps. The redshirt junior is the reigning ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Cummings and McPartland – members of the U.S. national team – racked up 43 goals and 25 goals, respectively for the Terps a year ago. Cummings was the ACC Freshman of the Year and an IWLCA First Team All-American in 2013. The sophomore midfielder leads the Terps with 23 points, including a team-high 16 goals. McPartland, a junior midfielder, boasts 14 points on 12 goals and four assists in 2014.

Players not named to the initial list have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Additions will be announced on March 20 and April 10. On April 24, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions for players who earn a spot. Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 8 and will be invited to the May 29 ceremony in Washington.

Maryland has won three of the last four Tewaaraton awards.  Caitlyn McFadden captured the honor in 2010 and Katie Schwarzmann became the Terps’ first two-time winner in 2012 and 2013.
