Coming off a huge quad meet victory Monday night, the Maryland gymnastics team hosts Bowling Green and Yale on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Comcast Center. The Terps look to keep their undefeated record at home.
Maryland finished in first place versus EAGL conference opponents George Washington, Pittsburgh and Towson on Monday night. Maryland posted a total score of 195.225, which is the team’s highest mark of the season.
In the meet, Maryland had season-high team marks on beam and floor, and tied its season-high mark on bars. Maryland gymnasts also beat or tied nine personal records, including Ebony Walter’s 9.900 on floor in the Terps’ final rotation. Her score helped the to clinch the win.
Looking forward, Maryland hosts EAGL foe North Carolina the following week on Friday Feb. 21, which is the final meet in a three-week homestand. The Terps are then on the road for the next three meets before ending the regular season at home against West Virginia.
Scouting the Falcons (5-4)
Bowling Green has posted four consecutive scores of 194 or better, a score the Terps have only beaten once this season. The Falcons have posted wins against Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Illinois-Chicago and EAGL-competitor, North Carolina.
The team’s losses include Oregon State, Ohio State, Boise State and Central Michigan. In its most recent meet, the Falcons fell to Central Michigan, but posted a season-high score of 195.550.
Scouting the Bulldogs (1-7)
Yale has faced EAGL competitor New Hampshire twice this season, in its season-opener and in its most recent meet. Last weekend the Bulldogs posted a season-best 188.700 in a loss to the Wildcats. When Maryland faced New Hampshire, it fell 195.450 to 193.950.
Yale has also posted losses to Minnesota, Brown (twice), Bridgeport and SCSU. The Bulldogs’ lone victory of the season was a 184.350 to 182.800 win against Penn.
