With the Maryland baseball team set to open its 2014 season on Friday at No. 23 Florida, right-handed pitcher Jake Stinnett and center fielder Charlie White picked up some preseason accolades on Monday.

White, a 29th-round draft pick by the New York Yankees in last summer’s MLB Draft, was named a third-team preseason All-American by College Sports Madness and was tabbed the 23rd-ranked senior prospect by Baseball America.

Last season, White set a single-season Maryland record with 39 stolen bases en route to All-ACC honors. White begins the season with 61 career stolen bases, one shy of tying the all-time school record.

Stinnett, a 29th-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2013 MLB Draft, was recognized by Perfect Game USA. Stinnett enters the season as the 32nd-ranked senior prospect according to the online service.

After starting 2013 as the Terps’ closer, Stinnett transitioned to the weekend rotation midway through the season. The senior finished with a 6-5 record with a 2.83 ERA, the 13th-best mark in the ACC, and 48 strikeouts.
