ABERDEEN, Md. - Emmy-nominated MLB Network analyst and former Major League Baseball player Bill Ripken helped the Maryland baseball team and its supporters celebrate the start of the 2014 season with its annual leadoff banquet Saturday night at Ripken Stadium.

Ripken closed the event by discussing with the audience the fundamentals and life lessons imparted upon him by his father, Cal Ripken, Sr.

Prior to Ripken's keynote address, head coach John Szefc thanked various Maryland baseball supporters and introduced the 35 members of the 2014 squad. During the introductions, Szefc recognized Andrew Amaro and Ben Brewster. Amaro and Brewster were voted most improved positional player and most improved pitcher, respectively, by the team at the conclusion of fall practice.
