The Maryland women’s tennis team defeated Old Dominion, 4-2, at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center Friday.
Alexandra Stanova and Nataliya and Olga Bredikhina paced the Terps with strong performances in singles and doubles. Stanova won her doubles match with Olivia Gaudreault before winning in singles while the Bredikhina twins rolled at No. 3 doubles and claimed singles victories.
“They came out strong and made it very difficult for us, but we just outfought them,” head coach Daria Panova said. “There are a couple things that we can improve on and that was a good learning experience for us.”
Just as in their match against Penn, the Terps used their bottom two doubles teams to claim the opening point of the match. Stanova and Gaudreault defeated Ingred Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic, 6-2. The Bredikhina sisters followed that up with a victory of their own to secure the point.
The Terps also found success lower in the lineup during the singles session. Stanova built on her strong doubles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ivana Vukovic.
Nataliya Bredikhina also rolled, taking out Nika Khomlovska , 6-3, 6-2. Her sister followed suit as Olga defeated Marijana Novakovic.
The Terps return to action back home on Sunday against St. John’s. Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Tennis Center at College Park.
