GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of the sixth-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team was voted Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Monday for the second straight week.
Walker-Kimbrough came off the bench and immediately made an impact for the Terrapins (13-1, 1-0 ACC) in their 79-70 win at No. 10 North Carolina on Sunday. The rookie scored 13 of her 16 points in the first half and finished the game with a career-high seven rebounds. The Aliquippa, Pa., native shot 54.5 percent from the floor, and made a clutch 3-pointer in the first half to give Maryland a four-point lead, 21-17, with 10:23 left in the half after UNC took a brief lead.
Walker-Kimbrough has scored in double figures in 11 of 14 games and the last five straight. She is averaging 11.4 points per game and is among the league’s top scorers. She is shooting 53.6 percent from outside the arc, which is good for second in the conference.
The Terrapins are ranked No. 6 in the latest Associated Press poll released Monday.
