COLLEGE PARK, Md. – UnitedHealthcare and the University of Maryland Athletics Department have partnered to host the second annual “Train with the Terps” on Saturday, Jan. 4 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in Comcast Center Pavilion.
A group of 100 children from the Housing Opportunities Commission and the Community Services Foundation will “Train with the Terps” in a program designed to encourage physical activity and healthy living.
“Train with the Terps” will feature student-athletes, coaches and team doctors from Maryland Athletics who will teach movement-based exercises that children will be able to incorporate into their daily lives, as well as healthy nutrition tips.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with UnitedHealthcare in this outstanding program,” said director of athletics Kevin Anderson. “This important initiative focuses on educating children about the importance of staying active and making better food choices for a healthy lifestyle. We are excited these youngsters will also have the opportunity to enjoy a Maryland basketball game at Comcast Center.”
After the “Train with the Terps” program, Maryland Athletics will provide complimentary admission for all participants to attend the Terps’ men’s basketball ACC home opener against Georgia Tech.
11:30 - 11:45 a.m. Arrival, T-Shirt Distribution & Warm-Up
11:45 am - 12:45 p.m. Exercise Circuit – students will be separated into four groups and will cycle through four different stations where student athletes/coaches will lead them through 15-minute sessions of exercises
12:45 - 1:00 p.m. Nutrition Tips
2:00 p.m. Men’s Basketball Game - Maryland vs Georgia Tech
