Final ACC Home Game
Sunday's match against North Carolina marks the Maryland volleyball team's final home contest as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Terps were one of eight institutions to compete in the ACC's inaugural volleyball season in 1980, accumulating a record of 23-20.
The Terps captured four regular season ACC titles ('90, '96, '97, '05) and four tournament titles ('90, '96, '03, '04) during their tenure. Among the most notable moments was when Maryland shocked the ACC in 2004 by claiming the conference tournament crown after finishing seventh in the regular season with a 7-9 record.
Maryland has had three ACC Players of the Year (Colleen Hurley '90, Daune Koester '96, Eden Kroeger '97), four ACC Tournament MVPs and 45 All-ACC selections.
The Terps have played well offensively over the last two weeks, culminating with a strong .314 hitting percentage performance at Syracuse.
Freshman Ashlyn MacGregor has emerged as a reliable asset for Maryland at middle hitter, connecting on 50% of her attacks over the last four games. Senior Mary Cushman has also elevated her hitting proficiency, posting at least 30% in each of her last three games.
Digs Record Broken
With her 14th dig in the third set against Wake Forest on November 10, senior Sarah Harper became the Maryland volleyball team's all-time leader in digs. Harper surpassed Nicole Lantagne's record of 1,668 digs, which had stood since 1993. Harper currently has 1,671 digs.
The historic milestone achievement put a bow on a fantastic Senior Day for Harper, Mary Cushman and Carlisle Abele. Harper was presented with a shovel after the game by head coach Tim Horsmon amidst a standing ovation from the crowd.
Senior Mary Cushman is on the verge of becoming just the fourth player in Maryland history to record 1,300 career kills. The Rochester, N.Y. native currently sits at 1,289 kills for her career and needs just 11 more to reach the milestone.
Cushman is also on the verge of setting a personal mark for single-season kills. She totaled 355 during her sophomore campaign and currently sits at 335 this season.
Sophomore Kelsey Hrebenach tallied 12 blocks (1s, 11a) in the Terps' four-set victory over Virginia, becoming the first Maryland player to accomplish the feat since 2011. The mark is tied for the highest this season in the conference for a four-set match.
Maryland had 31 blocks as a team on the weekend, including 18 against Virginia. The 18 blocks is a season-high for the Terps.
Freshman Ashlyn MacGregor was named ACC Freshman of the Week for career-best efforts against Virginia and Virginia Tech in October. It is MacGregor's first career conference honor.
The freshman had a memorable weekend at the net, hitting at a .447 clip with 20 kills and 11 blocks over the course of two matches. MacGregor's 12 kills against Virginia Tech were a career-high.
Head Coach Tim Horsmon
Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season in charge of the Maryland volleyball team and earned his 300th career victory against Georgia Tech earlier this season. All three coaches in Maryland volleyball history garner at least 300 career victories.
