Hello Terp Fans!

What an exciting time to be a Terrapin! With the continued success of our student-athletes and a number of great events coming up, there really isn’t a better place to be than College Park.

On Sunday, we had the privilege of hosting President Obama and the First Family at Comcast Center for the men’s basketball game against Oregon State. The First Family’s appearance brought additional excitement and intrigue to the College Park campus.

Kudos to the nearly 15,000 fans who attended our game.  As Coach Turgeon noted during his press conference, the enthusiasm our students showed last night was outstanding. We look forward to your continued support throughout the season. Keep it up!

I had the opportunity to be in Blacksburg for the football team’s sensational victory on Saturday against Virginia Tech. Our student-athletes put forth a gritty effort and their determination was fantastic.

Maryland’s 27-24 overtime win over the Hokies at Lane Stadium was the school’s first victory in Blacksburg since 1949. The Terps improved to 6-4 and we are excited to be bowl eligible. Maryland now holds a 16-15 all-time edge in the series.

It was an electrifying atmosphere with so many strong performances from our kids.  Coach Edsall said afterwards that all the credit goes to his players and I couldn’t agree with him more. I look forward to the upcoming weeks as the team looks to carry its momentum into the final two games of the regular season.

We also had great success on our own turf this past weekend. Congratulations to Missy Meharg and our field hockey team for advancing to their sixth straight Final Four and 17th overall with a dramatic 3-2 win over Princeton. The team will meet ACC rival No. 5 Duke this Friday in Norfolk, Va.

Congratulations to head coach Sasho Cirovski and our men’s soccer program for winning the ACC Championship over Virginia, 1-0, in the waning moments. Thanks to all of our great fans who made the trip to Germantown, Md. It helped propel the Terps to their third ACC crown in four years and sixth tournament title overall.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday for our final home football game in the ACC.  It is Senior Day, so please come out and join us at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
