Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening Statement:
“I thought we looked a little sluggish coming off the road, and from our start, but I want to focus on the positives. Again, to be able to have five players in double figures. The flow of the game, I think, is difficult and I thought we did a nice job stepping up and making free throws, which we are going to have to be able to have with this new rule. I thought in spurts we were able to get our transition game going, especially in the second half. Obviously we were again able to provide and show our depth and get some experience. It’s nice to be able to see that.”

On avoiding the ‘trap-game’ mentality:
“I felt like we’d be able to come out with great energy when you talk about your first home game, and getting back in front of our home fans, but for whatever reason, we started slow. I thought we were able to see some nice things when Alyssa was able to finally play and get in the flow. I thought these two [Alyssa Thomas and Alicia Vaughn] we able to give us tremendous energy out there.”

On the large number of fouls being called:
“What we talked about at half time is control what you can control. From our end we have to be more aggressive on the offensive end and just keep giving great effort on the defensive end. We just have to play hard.”

On getting to the free-throw line:
Obviously, anytime you get 35 free-throw attempts and take advantage of the new rule is positive. Credit this team, I like how we are stepping up with confidence to get those extra points at the free throw line.”

On her team’s ability to share the ball in the second half:
“This team is very coachable and they want to do well. I thought when we shared the basketball, a lot of that started with the transition. Alyssa Thomas was really good getting rebounds and starting us in transition.”

Senior Forward Alyssa Thomas

On moving past the foul trouble from last game:
“I was very happy. I was very happy to just be out on the court and I definitely don’t like sitting on the bench.  We have a great bench this year and it shows the amount of depth we have.”

On how the games are being called this year:
“We just have to feel out what they’re going to allow us to do and what they’re not going to allow us to do.”

On the UConn game Friday:
“Just focus on us.  We got to do what we do, which is rebound and play Maryland basketball.  They’re a great team and we look forward to the matchup.”

Senior Center Alicia DeVaughn

On the new officiating rules:
“Sometimes there are times where I’m guarding on the perimeter and as a big, the first thing I do is touch that person once they go by me. So it is an adjusting period for me.”

On playing with a deep team:
“Having the depth makes me not over think it, knowing that I have other people behind me that are capable to do just as good as I am. So it does make me feel free on the court.”
