The Maryland women’s golf team finished 18th with a three-day score of 915 at the Cougar Classic Tuesday in Hanahan, S.C.

Emily Gimpel led the Terps with a 226 (76-75-75), tying for 50th in the competitive field. Juliet Vongphoumy followed closely behind Gimpel with a 228 (71-77-80).

Freshman Panitta Yusabai recorded her tournament low score on Tuesday, posting a 75 for a three-day tally of 231 (76-80-75). Heidi Baek (76-81-80) and rookie Alexandria Papell (80-74-83) rounded out the group with a 237.

“We play in the Cougar Classic every year and it is the premier event in college golf,” head coach Jason Rodenhaver said.  "Unfortunately this year with school starting on Tuesday, essentially we got two days of practice and it showed in our play. It’s the first one of the year. We have a good team, we have a lot of talent, and I’m sure we’ll bounce back in two weeks in Greensboro.”

Florida captured the team title with an 859, edging Clemson by one stroke and host College of Charleston by two.

Maryland returns to competition Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Starmount Classic in Greensboro, N.C.
