University of Maryland head gymnastics coach Brett Nelligan and his coaching staff recently completed two outstanding weeks of camp at the on-campus Maryland Gymnastics Training Facility.

The Terrapin summer camp once against hit record-level enrollment as it hosted 245 campers ages 7-17. In addition, the group included three international gymnasts, one from Canada, one from Puerto Rico, and one from England.

The camp was open to gymnasts of all skill levels and this year included 36 Level 10 gymnasts, as well as a few elite training gymnasts. The two camp sessions ran from July 28 – August 1 and August 4 – August 8, respectively.

"We had an incredible two weeks of camp,” said Nelligan. “Working with so many young, talented gymnasts has really been a joy for me and my staff."

The superhero themed two weeks focused on “Saving the City.” Each evening, the gymnasts were broken into two superhero groups to compete against each other to save the city of College Park. Week one winner was Team Spiderman, while Team Catwoman won week two.

The camp was designed to teach the gymnasts fundamentals and to meet the needs of each individual gymnast. Daily rotations of vault, bars, beam, floor, trampoline, strength, dance and flexibility were included.
