Terps Cap Split Weekend Saturday

Duke Invitational Results

The Maryland outdoor track and field team finished strong in its split weekend action at the Florida Relays and Duke Invitational Saturday.

Thea LaFond led the way for the Terps in Saturday action at the Florida Relays, finishing sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 41' 2 1/2".

The 4x400m relay team of Julie Sinkovitz, Arielle Statham, Myah Hicks, and Shade Pratt registered its fastest time of the 2013 campaign, clocking in at 3:45.84.

Up the coast at the Duke Invitational, Josh Haghighi placed third in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.53m (54-02.75). The Terps continued their strong showing in the field events on the weekend as Pat Cole placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 47.70m (156-06).

After finishing first on Friday in the hammer, Moriah Young continued her stellar campaign in the women's throws with a fourth place finish in the shot put (14.57m, 47-09.75). Chioma Onyekwere followed her senior teammate with a sixth place finish (14.20m, 46-07.25).

Maryam Fikri came back after running the 1500m on Friday to compete in the 800m and finished in 2:14.45. Ryan Chelton had a strong run in the men's 800m, finishing in 1:55.11.

Ashley Brannock placed 11th in the 400m run, finishing with a solid mark of 57.58. Brannock also competed in the 200m where she ran 25.44.

Shawn David finished ninth in the men's 400m race with a time of 49.02 to round out the Terps top competitors Saturday.

The team will next gear up for the ACC Championships, hosted by NC State on April 18th-20th.
