Position:
Mehrtens currently serves as the Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer at Maryland and this year marks her 23rd year in athletics administration. 

At Maryland, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the athletics department. In addition to overseeing football, women's basketball and men's lacrosse, Mehrtens directly supervises nine service units, including sports medicine, strength and conditioning, championships, business operations, facilities, event operations, information technology, human resources and equipment. As the chief financial officer, Mehrtens is responsible for all aspects of the department's operating budget, contractual agreements and capital projects.

Mehrtens is also the chief liaison to the President's Office, Vice-President for Administration, Controller's Office and Legal Affairs.

Her NCAA committee work has included appointments to the NCAA Division I Management Council, NCAA Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet, NCAA Division I Academic/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet and the NCAA Track and Field Committee. She is also a member of the ACC Finance Committee.

Mehrtens began her career at Northeastern University in 1989 and served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Business and Finance at University of Miami (Florida), Associate Athletics Director at University of Kansas, Associate Athletics Director at University of Illinois, and Director of Athletics at University of North Carolina Wilmington.

A Panama City, Florida native, Mehrtens earned her master's degree in education from the University of Illinois in 2001 and is a 1986 graduate of University of Alabama where she was a track and field NCAA All-American. She and her husband Nicholas Mehrtens reside in Silver Spring, Maryland.
