Andy Kirk enters his first year on the University of Maryland’ s coaching staff, and will work with the Terrapin goalkeepers this season. Kirk finished his two-year career for Maryland as a starter in 1997 before leaving to play professionally in MLS. A standout during his two-year Terp career, Kirk was a part of Maryland’s 1996 run to the ACC Championship. The next season, he earned the Terps’ starting nod, and was a member of the ACC’s all-tournament team en route to a 15-6-1 record and 0.98 goals against average. The 1996 squad won a then-school record 16 wins that season before Kirk entered the ranks of MLS.

Kirk played from 1998-2000 in MLS, one year for the San Jose Clash and his final two years for the Tampa Bay Mutiny with fellow Terrapin R.T. Moore. While in Tampa, he trained the goalkeeper’s for the Countryside S.C. as well as sharing his knowledge at numerous other clinics. His other professional playing experience has come as part of Liverpool F.C. and Everton F.C., both in England, as well as Glasgow Rangers in Scotland.

In addition to his collegiate and professional playing experience, Kirk has compiled a wealth of experience in the U.S. national team program. He was part of the U-17 team that competed in the World Youth Championships in Japan in 1993. In 1997, Kirk was a starter for the U-20 team, which took part in the World Youth Championships in Malaysia. He has also been a U-23 Olympic Pool player. Kirk is currently completing his degree in finance at the University of Maryland. He is single and resides in College Park.
