On Purdom: In his second and final year at Maryland after attending Santa Ana College in California, Nick Purdom will either play up front or in the wide midfield for the Terps … displays a great deal of quickness and has a great nose for the goal … should fit into the rotation up front.

As a Junior in 1999: Purdom transferred from Santa Ana College and played his first year with the Terps in 1999, serving as a key reserve to spell the dynamic forward tandem of Taylor Twellman and Jason Cropley … scored a goal against Howard on Sept. 29, and added an assist against Loyola on Oct. 26 … played in 14 games for Maryland.

Before Maryland: Just finished a two-year stint at Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana, Calif., where he was first-team all-conference for the last two years … he was an National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American in 1998 as well as a California State All-American … Purdom received the Mayor's Award for outstanding athletic achievement in 1998 … his 23 goals and 20 assists in 1997 earned him the Orange Empire Conference's MVP in 1997 as well as team MVP status in 1997 … he was the runner-up for league MVP his last two years, and was also a first-team all-league pick … Purdom's team was the Century League champion in 1995, and he was named the Orange County Register's top Southern California prep midfielder the same year.
