The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to providing Maryland student-athletes with a comprehensive Career Development program with the primary goal of best preparing them for life after Maryland in a competitive job market. The SWCD program has partnered with the University of Maryland's award winning Career Center and programming will focus on the following four (4) phases:
Phase I: Assessment
- Self-assessment and prioritization of core values
- Exploration of potential career/industry choices, targeting potential companies
- Analyzing Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) as related to potential career choices
Phase II: Preparation
- Developing a resume and cover letter
- Networking and building professional relationships
Phase III: Action
- Internship search techniques
- Job search techniques
- Start thinking about applying
Phase IV: Transition
- Evaluating available options
- Making the transition from university to the professional work place

This workshop is geared toward helping student-athletes prepare for the upcoming Fall Career & Internship Fair. Presentation topics will vary from networking to how to properly dress for a career fair.
Objective(s): Student-athletes should be able to identify 3-5 items that will prepare them for successful participation in the Fall Career Internship Fair.

|"Fall Career & Internship Fair"
This annual University Career Center 3-day event provides students an opportunity to meet face-to-face with employers to discuss internship as well as full-time and part-time employment opportunities. Each day has different employers so student-athletes are encouraged to plan ahead. Attendees should dress professionally and bring multiple copies of resumes. No preregistration is necessary.
Objective(s): To meet with at least 5 potential employers or companies looking for interns.

In conjunction with the Fall Career and Internship Fair, The University Career Center has teamed up with Maryland Athletics, the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Veteran Student Life, to provide employers a special opportunity to connect with diverse and talented UMD students and student-athletes. This exclusive event allows for student-athletes to network with employers looking for individuals with their unique skills.
Objective(s): Student-athletes are able to identify 5 companies that are looking for individuals with their skill set(s).

|"Game Theory Group"
In partnership with Game Theory Group, Academic Counselors and SWCD will utilize this student development platform to deliver various e-Learning Modules to student-athletes. The modules will range from personality assessments to career assessments along with various academic enrichment tools such as time management and goal setting. This knowledge along with the guidance from the Academic Services Team will empower student-athletes to make better decisions about what subjects to study and what field of major is most suited for them based on the information from the various assessments.
Information will be given to first year student-athletes.
