As a Junior (2005): Played 49 games and was in the starting lineup for 41 ... saw time in both the infield and outfield, as well as at designated hitter ... hit .262 with 19 RBIs and 34 runs ... led the Terps with a career-high 19 steals ... in two out situations, batted a team-high .354 ... closed out the UNC Wilmington series by going 2-for-5 with two runs (Feb. 20) ... hit a game-winning home run against James Madison (Mar. 15) ... was 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the second game of a three-game series at Virginia (Mar. 19) ... recorded a double, run scored and was hit by a pitch against Duquesne (Mar. 22) ... had two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in the series finale at Georgia Tech ... made his first career appearance at first base in the game ... As a Sophomore (2004): Had a breakout season, finishing third on the team and ninth in the ACC with a .353 batting average and tying for fourth in the conference with four triples ... four triples also tied him for sixth on the school's all-time single-season list ... finished second on the team with 13 stolen bases and was caught stealing only once (.929 success rate) ... was third on the team with a .388 on-base percentage and posted an .886 on-base plus slugging average (OPS) ... had three eight-game hitting streaks throughout the season, including one to close the year ... his average never dipped below .340 after becoming a regular starter (Mar. 9 vs. Towson), and he was hitting over .400 as late as April 7 ... led the team with 41 hits, 53 total bases and 20 runs in conference play ... had at least one hit in 15 of his last 16 conference games, and had an ACC batting average of .423 (30-71) from mid-April through the end of the year ... also scored 17 runs and had nine RBIs over that 16-game span ... had at least two hits in each of the team's three ACC Tournament games, leading the team with seven total hits ... tied for the team-lead with four sacrifice flies ... was 1-for-3 with a career-high tying three RBI against Florida State (Mar. 21) ... went 6-for-9 with three runs, four RBI and two extra-base hits in a doubleheader against UMES (Apr. 6) ... had hits in each of the team's three games versus Virginia, going 7-for-16 in the series (Apr. 16-18) ... went 3-for-6 with three RBI, three runs and a home run in the first game of the Wake Forest series (Apr. 23) ... went 7-for-15 with eight runs in the series (Apr. 23-25).

As a Freshman (2003): Saw action at second base and shortstop, providing the Terps with some flexibility in the infield ... went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in his first start as a Terrapin against Stetson (Feb. 15) ... collected his first career RBI vs. Wake Forest (March 15) ... knocked in two runs on a single against Georgia Tech (March 23) ... stole a base and scored a run vs. Florida State (May 10).

At Franklin: A three-year letterwinner, earning MVP honors his senior season ... hit over .600 while leading Franklin to the WPIAL Class AAA championship ... compiled a .449 batting average in 2002 and .428 in 2001 ... named All-Conference and All-East shortstop his senior and junior campaigns ... also named an All-Star shortstop by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the Tribune Review in 2001 and 2002 ... selected to the All-District team by the Baseball Coaches Association ... chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 40th round of the MLB draft.

Personal: Son of Kathy and Pete Maropis ... has strong family ties to baseball - grandfather Pete played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1950s, father Pete played for Alleghany College (1973-75) and went on to play for the Chicago White Sox (1975-78), and brother Peter played at Duquesne ... majoring in biological sciences.
