After being sidelined during the 2003 season because of a knee injury, Kerry Hearsey has decided to hang up her goalie pads and assist the coaching staff during the upcoming season.

"It's an honor to be part of a program where a student-athlete who is not able to compete anymore can have the opportunity to coach," said head coach Missy Meharg. "I feel even more honored that such a great young woman has decided to take on this role with our staff. We're looking forward to mentoring her in coaching."

Prior to her preseason injury last year, Hearsey was coming off of a successful 2002 campaign where she ranked fourth in the country and second in the ACC boasting a 1.04 goals against average. Helping the Terps to a 17-5 record, she started in 19 games, recording five shutouts en route to second team NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors. She tied the school record with four-consecutive shutout games which also included a 2-0 blanking of No. 2 Old Dominion.

A native of Leicester, England, Hearsey was a member of England's Under-21 National Team. She won a silver medal at the 2002 European Championships.

Hearsey is entering her senior year and is a kinesiology major.
