Maryland Beats American, Georgetown Defeats Rhode Island in Field Hockey Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, MD--Maryland freshman back Marloes Platzek scored four goals and Georgetown senior Lauren Hilsky scored two goals, leading their teams to victory in the final day of the Terrapin Invitational field hockey tournament.

Maryland (8-0) defeated American University (2-4) in the championship game. Georgetown (4-1) defeated Rhode Island (0-6) in the consolation game.

Platzek broke the Maryland field hockey record by scoring at least one goal in the Terpsi sixth consecutive game. The previous team record was five consecutive games with at least one goal, set by Lisa Buente in 1990. Platzek also becomes the first Maryland player to score four goals in a game since current Terp Lynsey McVicker scored four goals against Southwest Missouri State in 1995.

Hilskyis first goal was unassisted and her second goal came on a penalty stroke. She also assisted on a goal by senior midfielder Lori Fogliano.
