Fourth-ranked Maryland Defeats Boston College, 6-1
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The University of Maryland field hockey team improved to 5-0 with a 6-1 victory over Boston College (2-2) at Alumni Stadium. The Terrapins, ranked #4 nationally, jumped out to a 2-0 just ten minutes into the game as Marloes Platzek (Delft, Netherlands) and Nadine Bennett (Chegutu, Zimbabwe) each tallied goals.
Boston College narrowed the margin with 1:56 left in the half as sophomore forward Julianne Marrone (Holden, Mass.) scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from junior Anne Marie Ambros (Bridgeton, N.J). However, the Terrapins responded just 1:02 later as Lynsey McVicker (Balleymoney, N. Ireland) blasted a shot into the cage off a penalty corner.
In the second half, the Terrapins extended their lead with three unanswered goals to finish out the scoring. Bennett led Maryland with two goals, while McVicker and Jenn Pratt (Greene, N.Y.) each added one goal and two assists.
