Maryland Beats Princeton 7-2 in Field Hockey
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Senior forward Nadine Bennett (Chegutu, Zimbabwe) scored three goals and freshman forward Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) added two goals, leading the third-ranked University of Maryland field hockey team (15-1) to a 7-2 victory over fifth-ranked Princeton (9-1) tonight at the Astroturf Facility.
With her three goal outburst, Bennett becomes the first Maryland player since Lisa Buente in 1990 to score at least 20 goals in a single season. She scored twice in the first half against Princeton as the Terps jumped out to a 5-0 advantage.
The Terps also got one goal each from senior forward Lynsey McVicker (Balleymoney, Northern Ireland) and freshman midfielder Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.). Princeton's two goals came from Amy MacFarlane and Molly O'Malley.
Maryland's next game will be on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at home against eighth-ranked Providence. It will be the Terps' final regular season home game.
