Princeton Upsets Terps 4-0 In NCAA Field Hockey Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, MD. -- Senior midfielder Amy MacFarlane scored twice, leading the Princeton Tigers to a 4-0 upset over the University of Maryland field hockey team in a second round NCAA Tournament game today. The Tigers (16-3) advance to their second straight Final Four, while the Terps (18-4) were eliminated in the quarterfinals for the second straight year.

Princeton jumped to a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by MacFarlane and junior forward Kristy Hale. MacFarlane and junior back Christine Hunsicker each added a second half goal.

The Terps suffered their first shutout of the season. The last time they failed to score at least one goal was November 10, 1996, when they lost to North Carolina in the ACC Championship game.

Princeton will next face North Carloina (19-3), who defeated Connecticut 4-0 in a second round match up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina today.
