Pensky's Take
"Lauren is an excellent 1-v-1 defender and can run with the fastest players in the country. She is one of, if not the most, unheralded players on our team."

On Krasko: One of the toughest players in the ACC ... not afraid to get physical with the opposition ... surprising speed and quickness with good closing ability ... was the Terps' best defender last season, consistently asked to mark the opposition's primary forward ... incredibly versatile athlete ... transferred to Maryland from Kentucky after fall 2002 ... played on the 2002 national championship club team ... switched from No. 20 to No. 2 prior to the 2004 season.

As a junior (2004): Started all 20 matches for the Terrapins ... helped the Terp defense keep No. 1 North Carolina scoreless for more than 70 minutes during the two teams' regular season game (9/24) ... was a dominant force and helped control the high-powered Penn State offense in the Terps' 1-0 win (11/14) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

As a sophomore (2003): A transfer from Kentucky who played in all 21 games, starting 14 ... played 1383 minutes ... started 12 of the last 13 games ... suffered a sprained left ankle vs. #19 Florida State (11/7) in the ACC Semifinals and played only the first 10 minutes ... started vs.Tennessee (9/20) and helped limit Lady Vols to eight shots to help Terps to Maryland/adidas Classic title ... came off the bench for the first five games before drawing first start at George Washington (9/14) ... made a key defensive save in overtime at Washington (8/29) in her Maryland debut.

As a freshman at Kentucky (2002): Played in 18 of 20 games with the Wildcats ... helped UK to five shutouts with solid defense ... started the final 10 games of the season, including both games in the SEC Tournament and an NCAA First Round game vs. Cincinnati (11/15) ... drew first career start in a 3-0 win over Florida (10/6)

Before College: Played four years at Kent Island High School in Stevensonville, Md. ... led team in scoring four straight years ... collected team MVP honors in both soccer and track in 1998 and 1999 ... helped her Bethesda Fury club team captured the Premier U-17 Girls National Championship last season.

Personal: Daughter of Ken and Kim Krasko... sister of Jessie, Casey and Madison... lists winning national championship with Bethesda Fury as her highlight in athletic career ... majoring in criminal justice.
