Prior to joining the Maryland staff, Catullo spent the 2009-10 season as the volunteer assistant at Millersville University, where he helped guide the team to a third-place finish in the East Regional. Two Millersville wrestlers qualified for the 2010 NCAA Championships.

Millersville also achieved success off the mat under Catullo's tutelage. The Marauders received a NCAA Public Recognition Award for excellence in the classroom as part of the NCAA's Academic Performance Program, one of only 10 programs in the nation to receive the award.

Before joining the staff at Millersville, Catullo was the top assistant at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., from 2004-09.

While at Franklin and Marshall, Catullo helped lead the Diplomats to their first NCAA qualifier in 11 years. In 2005-06 Catullo helped guide the team to an 11-5 finish, the best at Franklin and Marshall since 1980.

Catullo also assisted in the development of "The Friends of F&M Wrestling" initiative and had an active role in securing a bid and sponsorship for the 2008 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association championship at Franklin and Marshall. He was a member of the EIWA and NCAA ranking committee and also assisted with the women's golf team while at Franklin and Marshall.

Prior to his time at Franklin and Marshall, Catullo spent two years at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., as a graduate assistant, earning a master's degree in education with an emphasis in health, physical education and coaching. Catullo coached six NCAA Division II All-Americans and 12 NWCA All-Academic honorees, while also leading NSU to a top-15 finish at the NCAA Division II Championships.

Catullo was a member of the West Virginia University wrestling team from 1997-2002. During his time in Morgantown, WVU posted two top-10 finishes in 1998 and 1999, placed sixth at the National Duals in 1998 and won a pair of Eastern Wrestling League dual-meet championships in 1998 and 2002. He was also a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll each year at WVU and graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education.
