Coral Gables, Fla. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team lost to ACC newcomer Miami 2-1 at Cobb Field in Coral Gables, Fla., Sunday afternoon.
The match was tied 0-0 at the half, which was extended due to a 30-minute lighning delay, but Hurricane freshman Lindsay Curtin deflected a shot off Terrapin goalkeeper Nikki Resnick to give Miami a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute.
Maryland answered back just three minutes later when junior midfielder Simone Dekker netted her first goal of the season off a shot to the far post. Dekker's goal was assisted by Carissa Gilbert, her second assist on the season.
The match would stay tied at 1-1 until the 85th minute when Sheuneen Ta threaded a pass to Cynthia Dongo, who scored the game winner.
The loss drops the Terrapins to 3-2-1 on the season, 0-2-0 in the ACC. Miami raises its overall record to 1-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the ACC.
Maryland next travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to play the top-ranked University of North Carolina. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start on Friday, September 24.
