COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team named Angie Shetler as an assistant coach for the 2004 season. Shetler comes to Maryland from Syracuse University, where she served as an assistant for two seasons. While at Syracuse, Shetler coached the Orangewomen to their first Big East Tournament appearance in 2002.

Before joining the coaching ranks, Shetler patrolled centerfield for Texas A&M. She was a Big XII All-Tournament team selection during her junior year, and received the Aggies' Most Inspirational Player Award in both her junior and senior seasons.

Shetler transferred to Texas A&M after playing her freshman year at Stephen F. Austin University and her sophomore year at Blinn College. While attending Blinn College, her .402 batting average and 15 stolen bases earned her NJCAA All-American accolades.

Shetler completed a master's degree in higher education at Syracuse and a bachelor's degree in sports management at Texas A&M.
