Terps Head to Williamsburg in Season Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team will head to Williamsburg, Va., to take part in William & Mary's 15th annual invitational tournament. This is the Terrapins' first tournament of the 2007-2008 season.

The Terrapins will compete against William & Mary, Cincinnati, VCU, Duke, Arkansas, Marshall, Old Dominion, Pennsylvania, Boston College, Virginia, Princeton and Michigan State over the course of the weekend-long event. The tournament will include three doubles flights and six singles flights.

This will be the Terps' third consecutive year participating in the tournament. Last year in the William & Mary Invitational, the Terrapins went 9-13 in singles play and 4-7 in doubles play.

The Terrapins went 8-15 overall and 1-10 in the ACC in the 2006-2007 season. The team fell in the first round of the ACC Tournament to Wake Forest, 4-0.

Junior Michal Amir will serve as the team's captain for the year, with sophomore Lisa Miller serving as the team's co-captain. The Terps added four new competitors to the squad with Julia Huschke, Oksana Krutiyenko, Karin Lundmark and Adela Matejkova. Former Terp Marianne Baker will be staying on board as a Student Coach.
