COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will head to Atlanta this weekend to take on No. 12/9 Georgia Tech in a three-game series. The Atlantic Coast Conference series will be the second conference series of the season for both teams.
The Terrapins (19-9, 0-2) are riding a nine-game win streak heading into the matchup. Most recently, the Terps won both games in a midweek doubleheader against James Madison Wednesday evening. They won the first game 8-0 in six innings and the second 9-7.
Senior Alex Schultz, the current ACC Player of the Week, has been leading Maryland at the plate all season. Over the last nine games, she is batting .429, has 12 hits including four doubles and four home runs, and 11 RBI.
Over the nine-game stretch, the Terrapins have found strength at the plate. As a team, they are batting .325 with 76 hits, 55 runs and 44 RBI.
The Terrapin starting pitching staff carries an ERA of 2.10 in the last week and a half. Sophomore Kendra Knight, the current ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, has given up just 12 hits in 23.1 innings pitched and has struck out 43 batters. Junior Kerry Hickey has a 6-0 record over the week (11-3 overall) and has 51 strikeouts in 36.1 innings in the circle.
The Yellow Jackets are the defending ACC champions and are 26-5 on the year. They are 2-1 in ACC play and 4-1 at home.
