GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Niki Lau and junior Kerry Hickey of the Maryland softball team were both named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Academic team the league announced this week. The two student-athletes have each been honored twice in their careers with this accomplishment.
Lau graduated in May with a kinesiology degree. She was named a Dean's Scholar and was the recipient of the Lester Fraley Award, an award given to a top student in the University of Maryland's School of Public Health.
Earlier this spring, Lau was also named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Softball team. An All-ACC Academic team member in 2009, she was one of three ACC players to be honored on the team.
Hickey, who was honored on the conference's All-Academic team in 2008, is a criminology and criminal justice major.
Hickey completed the strongest year of her career in the circle in 2010. She finished in the top five of the ACC in ERA (1.67), opposing batting average (.191) and sixth in strikeouts (218). She recorded two no-hitters in the 2010 season. She now has recorded 10 in her career.
