ATLANTA, Ga. - No. 11/8 Georgia Tech edged the Maryland softball team Sunday morning in a 1-0 win in the Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. The Terrapins (19-12, 0-5) held the Yellow Jackets to just a .143 average at the plate and just three hits.

Maryland's hitters averaged a solid .240 at the plate with six hits in 25 at-bats. Georgia Tech took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and held the lead for the rest of the game.

Junior Kerry Hickey pitched the first five innings for the Terps. She recorded four strikeouts and allowed just two hits and the one run, which was unearned. Georgia Tech's Jen Yee scored in the first when she scored on a Terrapin's error with two outs. Sophomore Kendra Knight pitched the six inning for the Terps' giving up one hit.

Sophomore Vangie Galindo led the Terrapin offense with two hits in her four at-bats, including a double to open the third inning. Freshmen Nikki Maier and Sara Acosta, as well as sophomore Kathy McLaughlin and senior Alex Schultz, all had hits in the game.

The Terrapins will return home this week to play Hofstra, who is receiving votes in the NFCA and Softball polls, in a midweek doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. at Robert E. Taylor Stadium.
