WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Maryland women's tennis team opened its fall season Friday in the 15th Annual William & Mary Invitational.
Freshmen Karin Lundmark led the way for the Terps on the opening day of the tournament by defeating Lara Alexander of Virginia 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in first round action of Flight D.
Lundmark went on take down Alizze Paradis of Cincinnati 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals to move into Saturday's semifinal round.
Sophomore Lisa Miller had another first-round victory for the Terps, defeating Lauren Downing of Virginia 6-0, 7-5 in Flight F.
Miller and Maggie MacKeever also combined on an 8-3 victory over Elizabeth Young and Jen Keiner of Cincinnati in the opening round of the Flight C doubles.
MacKeever fell in the opening round of the Flight C singles to Nanar Airapetian of Arkansas 7-5, 6-4, before rallying for a 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-2) win over Jenny Rowen of Cincinnati in the consolation quarterfinals.
Huschke lost in the opening round of the Flight B singles to Tony Zawacki of Duke before defeating Ashlee Vosters of Richmond 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) in the consolation quarterfinals.
Krutiyenko won her opening round match in the Flight D singles over Daniela Cohen of Old Dominion (6-2, 6-1) before losing a three-set heart-breaker to Manon Noe of Michigan State 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4.
Play continues in the William & Mary Invite through Sunday.
