COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's seniors made sure their presence was felt at their last home lacrosse game.

Senior midfielder Nate Watkins (Elmira, N.Y.) scored a career-high six goals to pace the Terps to a 14-8 victory over Yale in their final game of the season at Byrd Stadium.

Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.) added three goals and three assists and senior Mike LaMonica pitched in with 2 goals for the 8-4 Terrapins.

Watkins' six goals is the most since Andrew Combs did the same against Delaware on March 17, 2001.

The Terps broke open the game with a six-goal third quarter and never looked back. Mike Mollot's man-up goal gave the Terps the lead for good at 6-5 five seconds into the third quarter. It was the second of six consecutive Maryland goals that broke the game wide open.

The Terrapin seniors accounted for 11 of the 14 goals, as Mike Morsell (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) punched in three goals and an assist.

Senior Brian Carroll (East Rockaway, N.Y.) won 18 of 25 faceoffs and had six groundballs, giving Maryland a huge advantage in ball control. The Terps had 55 groundballs, compared with Yale's 30.

Maryland took an early 4-1 advantage on Watkins' 3rd goal of the game 53 seconds into the second quarter. But Yale stormed back scoring four consecutive goals and took a 5-4 lead with 3:34 remaining in the first half. LaMonica's first goal tied the game at five going into halftime.

Edward Britt paced the Bulldog attack with three goals, while Blake Beachler notched 2 scores. Yale goalie Eric Wenzel made 20 saves as the loss dropped Yale to 9-4 on the season.

Maryland capitalized on Yale penalties, converting on three of six man-up opportunities. Danny McCormick (McLean, Va.), the nation's top goalie, made 11 saves.

Mollot's 18 career points vs. Yale in three career meetings. He also moved into a tie for 20th place on Maryland's all-time scoring list. Mollot's 129 points ties him with Pat O'Meally. With the win, Maryland's senior class moves to 41-17 overall including four wins over the Bulldogs.
